While walking on a balmy summer evening in Dordogne, France, Vincent wandered into a huge disused barn full of farm machinery. Through empty floorboards above, a wash of light pointed to a pile of eight-track tapes. In the most incongruous and unlikely of places, he found the albums of lounge crooners, opera, and yé-yé music. Imagine if that were all that was left of modern civilization a thousand years ahead? What if all that remained were some tapes, or hard drives even? “Abandoned Tapes” is an evaluation of thought in 2018, how we absorb news and information in the digital era, imagining where it may lead. It questions the striving for a utopian world where we all agree and feel the same.
lyrics
Anxious planet, on the verge of ice.
It's all the talk and thought at times, don't try to give advice.
We live for hate and difference at every possible time.
Soon we'll be post-euphoria, where disagreement's a crime.
I heard the future on abandoned tapes.
An age of promise is, what each one makes.
I heard the future on abandoned tapes.
Afraid of what's all at stake.
This mess can't be shaked.
At this moment, the radios are long gone.
The wine's been poured from all the skins.
The TV was pawned.
My call to leave is almost here, to move and steer.
The biggest fuel I have to use is deep set fear.
My call to leave is almost here. The end ain't near, and...
I heard the future on abandoned tapes.
An age of promise is, what each one makes.
I heard the future on abandoned tapes.
Afraid of what's all at stake.
This mess can't be shaked.
